About

Two community based choirs have been evolving in Kincumber over the past several years, Bouddi Voice Choir, who originally formed as a result of the Towards Tomorrow celebration at Kincumber Primary School in October 1999, and The Women’s Choir, a more recent addition with a different flavour (female voices). Christina Sainsbury (singer, singing teacher, music therapist and yoga teacher) conducts The Women’s Choir, and co-conducts Bouddi Voice Choir with her husband Chris Sainsbury (composer, guitarist and music teacher). Both Christina and Chris have a commitment to the enhancement of the community and its music through the process of community singing and performing.

The Two Choirs

Both choirs sing songs of cultural diversity, songs of social and environmental integrity, songs for their sheer beauty and songs just for fun. The repertoire is drawn from various cultures and styles, and expresses a full range of human emotion and mood.  Christopher, an avid and highly competent composer, has written and arranged several songs for Bouddi Voice Choir. Most of the songs are sung A Cappella (without accompaniment), using three or four part harmony.

The aim of the choirs is to provide the opportunity for people to sing together in an enjoyable and uplifting atmosphere, while developing the singing and choral skills required to bring the songs to performance standard.

Bouddi Voice Choir has performed at various festivals and events such as Coastfest, the St.Albans Folk Festival, the Kincumber Festival, and Brackets and Jam. They have also performed for fundraising events, particularly supporting  a Ugandan organization, INCODEFO (Integrated Community Development Foundation), who care for a large number of Ugandan orphans, many of whom are also HIV positive. The choir has also raised money through their performances for Amnesty International, UNICEF, The Tasmanian Wilderness Society, CCCEN and Bouddi Wildlife Rescue.

Bouddi Voice Choir will be performing as part of a combined choral event, Festival of the Voice at St Patricks Church, East Gosford, 2.30pm on the 23rd August, and also Sunday, September 7th, at this year's Coastfest.

Bouddi Voice Choir rehearses at the Kincumber Neighbourhood Centre every Thursday evening during school term from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

The Women’s Choir is a smaller and newer group. This year they performed in Gosford for International Womens Day and are booked to perform at Brackets and Jam” on 17th October.

The Women’s Choir rehearses at the Kincumber School of Arts on Monday mornings in school term from 10 am to midday.
